Jean & Jason: The Vineyard Estate at New Kent Winery Summer wedding

July 20, 2016 Skylar Scott

Over coffee and cornbread, Jean and Jason fell in love. It's just that simple when it's right! Which brings us to a brilliant sunny day in July....where two families became one. The Vintager Inn in New Kent, Virginia provided the perfectly beautiful rustic setting for the binding of hearts. Flanked on either side by rolling green meadows and vineyards, this historic home, built in 1855, bore witness to the exchange of vows, as did family and friends. The wedding party, mostly made up of their beautiful children, meandered down the garden path to the pergola. Wooden signs pointed the way and the children even carried sweet signs of their own. Not only was the ceremony for the well-booted bride and groom, but their children took part as well, pouring sand together to symbolize the blending of their families. Dragonflies danced throughout, as though they too were overjoyed. Three deer stopped by to share the day and listened silently from across the field. After taking full advantage of their beautiful surroundings for photos, the wedding party was introduced in the big red barn, complete with chandeliers and globe lights draping the rafters. From the tree stump cake stand bearing their initials to the wooden place settings, not a detail was missed. The guests wrote their well-wishes on giant Jenga pieces, each guest a piece to their puzzle, making their lives together complete and blessed. After a truly Southern supper, the bride and groom first danced with each other and then with their children. The Matron of Honor, Tricia, gave a touching speech that left not a dry eye in the room. This was followed by her husband, Mike's words of wisdom for the newlyweds. Then the dancing....and games, and laughter, and conga line. Yes, conga line! There was even a fire outside for making s'mores, ATV rides, and a corn-hole board. This was an action-packed wedding! It was a perfect celebration for a couple so full of happiness and love. As the evening wound down, the couple was embraced by their wedding guests in an enormous group hug and then ran through showers of sparklers to end the night. It was quite a perfect ending to a perfect day....congratulations Jean and Jason!

Vistapoint Wedding Norfolk VA: Molly and Derek

July 10, 2016 Skylar Scott
portraits.jpg

It was love at first sight. On a beach in Sarasota, Florida in 2013 Molly and Derek instantly knew that they had both found something special. Time nor distance could keep this sweet couple apart and in just 6 months, Derek proposed on Christmas morning surrounded by Molly's family. Flash forward to June 2016 at Vista Point in Norfolk, Virginia. A beautiful bride gets ready with the help of her beloved corgis. They make the day extra special and seem to understand the importance of the event about to take place.  The sweeping views are breathtaking as the sun begins its slow descent into the horizon. The Chesapeake Bay glimmers in the background, overshadowed only by the glowing couple declaring their love for one another. Surrounded by family and friends, Derek and Molly exchanged their vows. Even the wind played an important role. Though it was an uninvited guest, the photos were made even better by its unexpected arrival. It was a truly magical ceremony.  The bride is not only beautiful, but talented too! All of the bouquets and table settings were her creations! That's not all, she even made her own three-tiered wedding cake with gorgeous white flowers cascading down the side. It was a work of art and a labor of love. They celebrated into the evening and danced until the very last song. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day. Congratulations, Derek and Molly!

Romantic St Lucia Wedding: Mr and Mrs Samples

June 24, 2016 Skylar Scott

Congratulations to the newly married Mr. & Mrs. Samples! These high school sweethearts decided to tie the knot at the decadent Sandals La Toc in St Lucia. Some would think it impossible to top a romantic Paris proposal beneath the Eiffel Tower, but somehow, these two managed to pull it off! They made their escape with family & friends to St. Lucia. The beauty of the island had to take second place to this gorgeous wedding. After some champagne, an intimate first look, and some hugs and laughter Jamie & Tim stood under a gazebo facing the jewel blue sea to exchange their vows. Though it was the notorious rainy season, the sky held off until just after the ceremony, where it poured warm island rain upon the happy couple. It was if this special day had been christened by the island herself! The setting sun over Rodney Bay made for a lovely lavender end to the evening. It was sheer perfection! Though their sweet husky, Shelby Blu, could not attend, she was with them in spirit. Jamie & Tim brought her in their hearts and knew that she would approve of all the festivities. Afterwards, the happy & adventurous couple spent two weeks with their dearest friends exploring all that St. Lucia has to offer. They are off to a great start! Best Wishes!

Blush and Gold Yorktown Freight Shed wedding: Mr and Mrs Johnson

June 21, 2016 Skylar Scott

It all started with a date on the beach in Yorktown....then love changed everything! Within 6 months, this sweet couple got engaged, purchased a house, and began planning the rest of their lives together.  The forecast called for rain...yet miraculously, it was a beautiful day with not a drop of rain to dampen spirits or hearts. In her Ava Clara gown, Brittany took everyone's breath away. Todd, who lost his dad to cancer, wore his father's watch so that he too could be a part of this special day. After a touching church ceremony, Todd and Brittany headed back to the beach where it all began. The bride chose pink, blush, and gold that only enhanced the beautiful setting overlooking the York River. The Coleman Bridge stood quietly in the background, perhaps symbolic for bridging hearts and families together. The couple chose the historic Freight Shed to celebrate their I dos. The Freight Shed was originally built in 1935 on the banks of the York River and has undergone many transformations in its lifetime. It has been a steamship terminal, a post office, and now hosts events and celebrations against a stunning backdrop. The sunset was absolutely breathtaking and made for some amazing photos of the blissful couple. They danced the night away with friends and family, only making their exit beneath a shower of sparklers and well-wishes.

William and Mary Alumni house wedding: Charlie & Claire

June 14, 2016 Skylar Scott

Charlie and Claire met each other when they both attended the historic and prestigious William and Mary in the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia. What better place to exchange vows than at the Alumni House! The bride and bridesmaids readied themselves at  the Williamsburg Manor House Bed and Breakfast. The ceremony took place out in the garden beneath beautiful boughs adorned in their finest spring greenery. Though the sky looked heavy with rain, everyone remained hopeful that the sun would make an appearance. A stringed quartet played on the lawn. The bridesmaids were in Williamsburg blue, of course! The bride, dressed in a gorgeous Maggie Sottero gown from Tiffany's Bridal in Richmond, was such a sight to behold that the sun just couldn't help but shine down right in time for the "I do's"! Crim Dell bridge is a must for any wedding at William and Mary, so the sweet couple carried on the tradition with a kiss at the top. Legend has it that if two lovers cross together and kiss at the crest, they will be together forever! It was quite a lucky day! After photos of the wedding party and the new Mr. and Mrs. amongst the lush garden setting were complete, the reception ensued. Family and friends danced to the lively music of The Lone Rangers and toasted the new couple under sparkling lights. The cake was made by Dorthy Busic, a family friend, and was as delicious as it was beautiful. It was another history-making day in Williamsburg, Virginia. Best wishes Mr and Mrs Clark!
